Summer Holidays

This worksheet seems to be a good way to recall topic-related vocabulary on "Summer Holidays" and, at the same time, introduce a grammatical structure - The Future with Going To.

Environmental problems

Check out this SlideShare Presentation:
It can be a good way of warming up the students to introduce the theme "Environment" and the topic-related vocabulary :-)

The 3 R's

Every day we throw away cans, glass bottles, plastic and metal jars and paper. Most of this waste is sent to a dump or landfill where it can take hundreds of years to decompose.

It's time to learn the 3 R's of the environment and practise them:
- Reduce: the amount of waste you produce.
Green Tip - Use the computer to teach and learn and print out only what you really need!
- Reuse: Use things again instead of throwing them away.
Green Tip - Use all writing paper on both sides!
- Recycle: make it possible to create new products out of the materials from the old ones.
Green Tip - Buy products that contain recycled materials (e.g. recycled paper)!
Now let's listen to a song by Jack Johnson to get into the rhythm of the 3 R's...

Here are the lyrics to listen and have fun unjumbling the letters:

ehtre it's a magic number
Yes it is, it's a magic number
Because wot times three is six
And three times ixs is eighteen
And the eighteenth letter in the alphabet is R
We've got three R's we're going to talk about today
We've got to rnela to
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
If you're going to the market to buy some
eicuj
You've got to bring your own bags and you learn to reduce your swtae
And if your brother or your sister's got some cool clothes
You could try them on before you yub some more of those
Reuse, we've got to learn to uerse
And if the first two R's don't work out
And if you've got to make some rhsta
Don't wtroh it out
Recycle, we've got to learn to lyercec,
We've got to learn to
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Because ehtre it's a magic number
Yes it is, it's a magic number
3, 3, 3
3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 33, 36
33, 30, 27, 24, 21, 18, 15, 12, 9, 6, and

A message to inspire us

I believe this video can be a good inspiration for everybody, a way to make us rethink our role in the planet. In fact, even the tiniest daily action matters and can make a difference...

Let's read these statements for further reflection:

“If I had to use one word to describe the environmental state of the planet right now, I think I would say precarious. It isn’t doomed. It isn’t certainly headed toward disaster. But it’s in a very precarious situation right now.”
Robert Engelman

"The future of life on earth depends on our ability to take action. Many individuals are doing what they can, but real success can only come if there's a change in our societies and our economics and in our politics. I've been lucky in my lifetime to see some of the greatest spectacles that the natural world has to offer. Surely we have a responsibility to leave for future generations a planet that is healthy, inhabitable by all species."
David Attenborough

Everyday is Earth Day

Just a few lines to remember it's never too late to care about the Planet...

Earth Day is celebrated each year on April 22 in virtually every country on Earth. It's a day for people to be more aware of the ecological crisis threatening the planet and of the importance of their daily actions to protect it.
We know that most environmental problems affecting the entire world are due to human activities.
